Radio beacons in Norway in the 1950s

Historiske radiofyr i Norge på 1950-tallet - NDB, Range, ILS

For historical information only, do not use for navigation or aviation purposes!

The following list contains the aeronautical radio beacons that were active in Norway in the mid of the 1950s. All information is outdated and may not be used for navigational purposes.

At this time there were mainly non-directional beacons (NDB). The identification of most en-route beacons consisted of three letters and began with an L, followed by an E, I, M, or N. The third letter sometimes corresponded to the location. A systematic approach is difficult to recognize. Radio beacons for the approach to airfields had two letters, mostly according to the name of the airfield.

The radio beacon Stavanger Varhaug was special, because it was of the type Consol, the successor of the German radio beacon "Sonne".

Some airfields were equipped with the Instrument Landing System (ILS). There were some seaplane bases that had an NDB.
